We strive to create STEM accessibility within each and every county in order to inspire next generation’s pioneers, leaders, and trailblazers.
FIRST Across Iowa isn’t just a one and done program; it’s a dedicated effort to bring STEM education to underserved communities. This initiative aims to be a pioneering step among many, making sure that FIRST becomes accessible to everyone. The goal is to bring awareness of FIRST, and STEM based programs, and simultaneously start a trend of efforts like this across the world, one county, one state, and one country at a time.
FIRST teams are valuable for children (especially in underprivileged communities) because they are taught skills that they wouldn’t have the opportunity to learn elsewhere. This set of skills includes but is not limited to: digital literacy, and strong leadership, problem-solving, stress management, and team-building abilities. All of these skills are becoming increasingly vital in today’s world, giving the kids who are involved in FIRST teams a step-up. To build the workforce of tomorrow, we must solidify the foundation of education today, and FIRST is at the forefront of that movement. As a hands-on program, FIRST makes STEM engaging, and hones in on developing students not only from a technical aspect, but from a personal one, emphasizing teamwork, communication, and inclusivity.
We are an ever expanding, dedicated group of individuals who are committed to the mission of bringing awareness to STEM education, and the program of FIRST throughout Iowa, and beyond. Our goal is to make sure as many people as possible have free-of-cost, hands-on learning experiences to help students learn the tools necessary today, to reach new heights in the future.
